Success Stories

Martinique Scott

“Midlands Tech embraced me so carefully. I spoke with the staff, from registration, to financial aid, to advisement. Everyone treated me so kindly and they were patient with me and they helped me think through the process.”

Martinique's story demonstrates that it’s never too late to finish what you started. After 25 years away, Martinique returned to MTC to finish what she started after being inspired by her daughter Aylssia’s journey.

In 1996, Martinique Scott made the difficult decision to walk away from her studies at MTC to focus on her family.

In 2021, after 25 years away, Martinique returned to MTC to finish what she started after being inspired by her daughter Aylssia’s journey. Alyssia was able to attend MTC before transferring to pursue a degree in Advertising at the University of South Carolina where she graduated with honors.

Motivated by Alyssia’s success, Martinique began her journey at MTC. She was anxious due to all of the changes that had occurred since she last attended college. With the help of Dean, Dr. Donna Zeek, Martinique's stress was eased by choosing to pursue a degree within the School of Interdisciplinary Studies.

Together, Martinique and Dr. Zeek would build a customized degree and career plan. Martinique was able to choose courses she was comfortable with from various degree programs to create a diverse and unique schedule that would give her the knowledge she wished to gain.

After a long journey, Martinique finished her degree and will graduate in Spring 2022 with an Associate in Interdisciplinary Studies.

Martinique and Alyssia aren’t the only ones in their family to attend MTC. Martinique's oldest daughter graduated from MTC in 2017, Alyssia graduated in 2018, and her youngest daughter will be attending Midlands in the Fall of 2022.

As her story shows, Midlands Tech is like family.
