Assessment, Research and Planning

The Office of Assessment, Research and Planning (ARP) provides research and data analysis in support of institutional effectiveness and planning throughout Midlands Technical College (MTC). ARP manages and coordinates the college’s institutional accreditation through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) and the Director of ARP serves as the college’s accreditation liaison. ARP continuously works with MTC Executive Council to design, implement and manage the institutions multi-year strategic plan.

Engineering Technologies

Engineering Technology degree programs include Architectural Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, Chemical Technology, Electronics Engineering Technology, and Mechanical Engineering Technology. The Mechanical Engineering Technology degree offers concentrations in Computer Aided Design, Mechanical Systems, and Manufacturing.

Students can also earn an Associate in Applied Science degree in Engineering Fundamental, with various concentration areas available, after taking courses that comprise the first two years of a four-year engineering major. A number of the programs within Engineering Technologies have developed flexible, short-term certificate programs designed for students who wish to specialize in one area of employment.

Information Systems Technology

Information Systems Technology offers a variety of educational programs designed to prepare students for careers in Application Programming, Web Design, Internet Programming, Database Development, Computer Networking, and Network Security. New Student Orientation

All new freshmen, all new transfers, and all readmitted students must complete online orientation before scheduling an advising appointment. Online New Student Orientation engages the student in a career assessment to ensure they are in the “right fit” program. Additionally, the online orientation walks students through the financial aid process, explains key dates/deadlines, overviews MTC expectations/resources, and prepares a student for their first advising appointment. The Nursing Department provides a high-quality educational programs that prepares students to become eligible for licensure and for entry level practice as licensed practical nurses (LPN) through the diploma program and as registered nurses (RN) through the associate degree program. If you are already an LPN and want to return to school to become an RN, we offer a transition nursing program. All programs are approved by the South Carolina Board of Nursing and accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing.

Office of Philanthropy

The Office of Philanthropy supports MTC by building and sustaining relationships that result in resources for the students, faculty and staff, and programs of the college. The Philanthropy team helps donors provide financial support such as student scholarships and program funding through the MTC Foundation. The team also works with alumni and friends of the college who provide volunteer and mentor support through various college initiatives such as the MTC Alumni Association and program-specific advisory boards. The MTC Alumni Association helps keep graduates connected with MTC in ways that bring value to them and to the broader community.

The Office of the Registrar is the administrative body responsible for enrollment and degree verification, auditing a course, transcript request, etc. Many of these popular transactions can be done through MyMTC. Resource Development provides the following services:

  • Researches private and public grant funding sources for college programs
  • Advises MTC faculty and staff on identifying grant funding opportunities for college programs
  • Facilities and leads grant development and writing teams
  • Assists in internal and external grant partnership development
  • Researches and analyzes labor market and other data for grant narratives
  • Develops grant budgets and proposals and advises on contents

School of Advanced Manufacturing and Skilled Trades

In the School of Advanced Manufacturing and Skilled Trades, associate degree programs are offered in Commercial Graphics Communication; Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning/Refrigeration Technology; Automotive Technology; Machine Tool Technology; Mechatronics Technology; and Building Construction Technology. Advanced Manufacturing and Skilled Trades also offers the associate degree in General Technology/Occupational Technology, which allows a student to plan an individual program of study to meet specific needs. Diplomas are offered in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Mechanics, Industrial Electricity/Electronics, and Machine Tool. A number of the programs within Industrial Technologies have developed flexible, short-term certificate programs designed for students who wish to specialize in one area of employment, such as Mechatronics, Machine Tool Technology, six different Automotive Technology certificates and Welding.

The School of Business offers a variety of educational pathways designed to prepare students for careers in multiple areas of business, including accounting, management, marketing, and administrative office technology. Opportunities for specialization include entrepreneurship, customer service, supervision, public administration, sales and retail management, and digital marketing. Continue to a four-year institution after completing the two-year business transfer degree or the Supply Chain Manager 2 + 2 program, which leads directly to the Operations and Supply Chain Management Degree at the Darla Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina.

The School of Interdisciplinary Studies serves students who need a customized curriculum plan to prepare for careers that require skills and higher education in multiple disciplines. Interdisciplinary concentrations in either the Associate in Arts or Associate in Science programs are tailored to meet the general education and discipline requirements of these unique education and/or career goals. Students may submit a request to pursue a custom pathway in the School of Interdisciplinary Studies after meeting with an Academic and Career Advisor.

School of STEM

The School of Science, Information Systems Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) offers a variety of educational pathways designed to prepare students for wide-ranging careers in the disciplines of science, IT, engineering, and mathematics. Opportunities for specialization include, but are not limited to, software and website development, computer networking, biology, chemistry, physics, engineering, architecture, and surveying. Students can continue to a four-year institution after completing the two-year associate in science transfer pathways in biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, or pre-professional studies. Students may also pursue bachelor degrees in several engineering and computer-related disciplines via the Engineering Fundamentals 2+2 and Computer Technology articulation agreements in place with multiple South Carolina colleges and universities.

Student Financial Services

Student Financial Services can provide you with a wide array of financial resources for college. These resources include federal and state grants, scholarships, loans and work-study programs. This office also administers Lottery Tuition Assistance, SC Workforce and Industrial Needs Scholarship and LIFE Scholarship funds that are provided by the State of South Carolina for students in SC Technical colleges.

The Office of Student Life offers workshops and activities designed to enhance the college experience and engage students in college life and foster leadership development, academic success and healthy lifestyles. Testing Services provides a broad range of testing services to support college enrollment, student advanced placement in courses, and classroom instruction. Testing services handled by this office include placement testing for college entry, SAT and ACT testing, CLEP assessment for advanced placement, instructional testing for on-campus classes and distance learning, WIN, and WorkKeys assessment for employment. Veteran's Affairs

This office serves MTC student veterans and their dependents. If you are a veteran or the dependent of a veteran, this office will assist you with veteran’s education benefits for which you are eligible. MTC has been designated as a VetSuccess on Campus program by the Veteran’s Administration and offers a wide array of veterans’ support services through this program. MTC is the only college in South Carolina that offers this program.
