Orientation, Advisement and Registration

Were you recently admitted to the college? Congratulations! New Student Orientation is offered completely online. If you are a new freshman, a new transfer student, or a readmit student, follow the steps in your Admissions notification to complete online orientation and schedule your advising appointment.

What type of student are you?

First-time students - a student who has never attended a college or university. Freshman orientation is completed online and is required before you can be advised. You can complete New Student Orientation here. You will schedule an advising appointment with an Academic and Career Advisor at the conclusion of online orientation.

Current/Continuing Students - a student who is currently attending MTC. Continuing students should schedule an advisement appointment.

Readmit/Returning: a student who previously attended and earned credits from MTC and was required to submit a new Application for Admission. Readmit students who have already completed online orientation, should schedule an advisement appointment with an Academic and Career Advisor.

Transfer Student: a student who has earned credits from another college or university and is transferring to MTC with the intent to earn a degree, diploma or certificate. Transfer students are required to complete an interactive online orientation and then schedule an advisement appointment with an Academic and Career Advisor.

Transient Student: a student who is currently attending another college and is taking coursework at MTC for transfer back to their original institution. Transient students are required to apply to MTC and will receive personal assistance with registration.

Before Orientation and Advisement

In order to participate, you must have:

  • Applied to MTC and been accepted
  • Completed your MTC placement tests and have results (Reading and Math)
  • If you have Advanced Placement (AP), SAT, ACT, CLEP, or IB scores or if you have already completed college courses, you should submit official transcripts or scores directly to the college.

Orientation FAQs

After I complete online orientation, do I need to schedule an advising appointment on the campus I plan to attend?

No. After completing New Student Orientation online, you will register for an advising session with an Academic and Career Advisor who advises students in your program of study. Advisor locations vary across the campuses. When you register for classes, that's when you will pick the campus you want to attend.

I've completed online orientation and have signed up for an Academic and Career Advising appointment, now what?
You will receive a confirmation in your MyMTC e-mail account. Please print a copy for your records. You will receive a reminder two-to-three days prior to your advising session. You will also receive text message reminders from our appointment scheduling program. If your plans changed or you need to update your status, go back online to manage your account.
What will happen during my Academic and Career Advising appointment?
You will meet with an Academic and Career Advisor who will get to know you, share more about your program of study, advise you for your first semester’s courses, and provide assistance with course registration. You will likely continue to work with the same Academic and Career Advisor after your first appointment. Please arrive to your appointment 10 minutes early so you can complete important information before the appointment begins. Before leaving campus, you should register in your first semester’s coursework and connect with college resources including Student Financial Services.
Can I bring a guest with me to the advising appointment?
Yes. Should you decide to sign a FERPA waiver allowing another individual to join you for the appointment, you may bring up to two adult guests (over 18 years old or older). We help answer questions and concerns from a family member/guest’s point of view. You can receive the FERPA waiver when you check in for your appointment.
