Lindsay Weathers accepting award from ACCT

Midlands Technical College (MTC) history professor Lindsay Weathers has earned the 2025 Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) Southern Region Faculty Award. Weathers accepted her award on October 23, 2025 at the ACCT Leadership Congress in New Orleans, LA.

“Professor Weather’s unwavering commitment to student success sets a remarkable standard for our college community,” said MTC Provost Dr. Barrie Kirk. “Her ability to build meaningful, lasting relationships with students exemplifies the kind of personal and academic support we strive to offer every learner.”

Kirk added, “Professor Weathers brings history to life—helping students think critically about the past, connect it to the future, and grow in unexpected ways. She makes learning engaging and fun, all while championing active learning and accessibility through the Open Educational Resources (OER) textbook she developed to support every student’s success.”

Weathers’ textbook is used by other MTC faculty and is offered at no cost to students. By not having to purchase a textbook, each MTC student in History 202 saves nearly $200. In one semester alone, use of Weathers' textbook saved students more than $83,000.

ACCT Southern Region Faculty Award Recipients

Over the past six years, MTC has taken home the ACCT Southern Region Faculty Award four times. Prior winners include EMT professor Benji McCollum (2022), biology professor Eric Goff (2021), and humanities professor Robert Gilmer (2020). Annually, only five faculty members from community and technical colleges across the country and beyond receive regional faculty awards from ACCT.

Midlands Technical College has more than 650 expert professors providing personalized support, with students benefitting from an average 15:1 student-to-professor ratio.
