“Onpoint! with Cynthia Hardy” Features MTC Executive Director of Programs

On Sunday, April 26, 2026, WWDM radio’s “Onpoint! with Cynthia Hardy” hosted a conversation about the educational, economic, and workforce development impacts of Scout Motors on the Midlands.  

Guests present were Ben Gaston, executive director of programs for Corporate and Continuing Education at Midlands Technical College (MTC); Dr. William R. Hauk, Jr., associate professor in the Department of Economics at the Darla Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina; and Clarice Henderson, Scout Motors Vice President of Human Resources for Production. 

During the broadcast, Gaston recounted a story about an MTC engineering student who attended a recent grand opening at Scout Motors’ new training facility.  

“Through the energy and seeing what they saw at the grand opening experience, they immediately wanted to know, how do I transfer into [MTC’s] electric vehicle engineering program? And we were able to have that conversation,” Gaston recalled. “Everywhere we’re going, folks want to know, how do I get into the programs, and how do I apply for jobs at Scout? And it’s just consistently part of the conversation.”
