Dr. Rhames Honored in 2023 S.C. African American History Calendar

Dec 05, 2022

Dr. Rhames signs his profile feature in the 2023 S.C. African American History Calendar.

Midlands Technical College President Dr. Ronald L. Rhames is an honoree in the 2023 South Carolina African American History Calendar. Created every year since 1989, the calendar profiles individuals who have made a positive, compelling impact on South Carolina.

"Being in the company of fellow African American honorees who are trailblazers in their fields is humbling," said Dr. Rhames. "My hope is that I not only helped pave the way for those who will come after me, but that I also laid a foundation so we can not only do better but be better."

Dr. Rhames is the featured profile for the month of September. He is the first African American president of Midlands Technical College, and the first graduate of a South Carolina technical college rise to become its president.

"The 2023 calendar honorees' commitment to improving the lives of others through education, health, the arts, advocacy, and public service are remarkable," said State Superintendent of Education Molly Spearman. "Each time readers turn the page to the next month, they will be reminded of the tremendous legacy these honorees have left to inspire future generations."

Other honorees include MTC's first female English instructor Doris Greene, WIS TV News Anchor Judi Gatson, epidemiologist Dr. William Jenkins, and musician Brook Benton.

Printed calendars are now available for purchase and also can be downloaded digitally at Also on the website, you can see previous editions of the calendar, including biographies of past honorees and resources for educators.
