How do I know if I'm an Academic student?

Academic students are taking courses for college credit toward a degree, certificate or diploma. At MTC, academic students fall into two categories: those who are earning a credential for the workplace here at MTC, and those who plan to take their first two years at Midlands Tech and then transfer to a 4-year college. No matter what your major is, if you plan to transfer to another college, you should enroll in the Associate in Arts or Associate in Science degree program. Here is a comprehensive list of our academic programsLearn which program is right for you by exploring the left navigation menu on this page that sorts programs by industry.

What types of Academic programs are available?

  • An associate degree is a 2-year program that can be applied toward a 4-year bachelor’s degree or stand on its own.
  • A certificate program is a collection of courses designed to get you career-ready in a year or less.
  • Diploma programs generally take more time than certificate programs but less time than an associate degree. They can usually be completed in 1-2 years.

What programs are eligible for Financial Aid?

Many academic programs are eligible for financial aid. See a list of financial aid eligible programs for Title IV Funds.

What if I don’t know what I want to major in?

Transfer students who know they want a bachelor’s degree but are undecided about what their four-year major will be should enroll in the Associate in Arts program. Our trained advisors can help you decide on a major later. Students who do not want to transfer to a 4-year college but want to graduate from one of MTC's credit programs (certificate, diploma, or degree) should enroll as Undecided.
