Rochelle Goodwin

“The MTC Foundation helped provide financial support so I could pay for my emergency and finish my education.”

Through donations from the community, MTC alumni, and MTC employees, Rochelle received emergency financial assistance to get her car repaired and finish her degree.

When an MTC student and single mother experienced a financial emergency, the MTC Foundation’s Emergency Grant Fund got her back on track.

“I was in my forties and a single mother of two sons when I decided I wanted to attend college to make a better life for myself and my family,” said Rochelle. “I always knew that I wanted to help others especially the elderly and children with autism. I had been working in a variety of jobs that were unfulfilling and provided me with no future career path. I chose to attend MTC and work towards a degree in Health and Human Services.”

One day when Rochelle was driving to class, her driver’s side door flew open. She had to miss her classes and desperately needed financial assistance to pay for the repairs to her car so she could attend school and provide for her family.

When Rochelle asked her MTC advisors and mentors for guidance, they suggested she seek assistance from the MTC Foundation. Through donations from the community, MTC alumni, and MTC employees, Rochelle received emergency financial assistance to get her car repaired and finish her degree.

“I had one of life’s emergencies and didn’t have the financial means to overcome it,” said Rochelle. “The MTC Foundation helped provide financial support so I could pay for my emergency and finish my education.”

“Through hard work, perseverance, and support, I was able to graduate in August with an Associate Degree in Health and Human Services,” said Rochelle. “In addition, I have already secured a full-time job through my internship. Had it not been for the MTC Foundation’s help, I would not be where I am today working full time in a job I love with a future that makes my family proud. I feel like I am teaching my children that no matter how old you are, you have to keep working hard and going after your dreams.”

Rochelle said the support of MTC faculty and staff helped push her across the finish line and helped her gain confidence. Rochelle’s story is similar to those of other students at MTC who rely on donations to the Emergency Grant Fund.

“I realize there are people in the community who are making donations and providing support to help students like me succeed,” said Rochelle. “Thanks to people like them, you truly can get anywhere from here.”
