Christine Witkowski is a Professor of Sociology in the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Midlands Technical College. She currently enjoys teaching Introduction to Sociology, Sociology of the Family, and Social Problems. In the past, she has taught Sociology of Education, Inequality in Education, Ecology of Human Social Systems, Collective Behavior and Social Movements, Utopian Societies, and World Regional Geography. Christine has hosted or co-hosted many professional development workshops, served on a strategic planning team on student retention, and served as team leader for the strategic planning team on delivering excellent instruction. She’s also hosted Social Science Forums and other events for students, faculty, and staff.

Christine joined MTC full-time in 2013 after having taught as an adjunct instructor at both MTC and USC since 2004. She earned her Ph.D. in Sociology from University of South Carolina, her M.A. in Geography and Environmental Studies from Northeastern Illinois University, her M.S. in Education from Northern Illinois University, and her B.S. in Marketing from Northern Illinois University. She teaches with the goal of helping students to better understand human social behavior as well as the relationship between humans and the rest of the natural world. She strives to empower her students with knowledge and skills that will help them to lead more successful academic, personal, professional, and civic lives. Christine’s professional interests include higher education; collective action and social change; population dynamics; human rights and civil rights; human ecology and environmental concerns; and more. Her personal interests include hiking, swimming, biking, kayaking, walking, gardening, playing games, camping, and more.
