Meredith Brown is a passionate and innovative Psychology Professor who blends core psychological principles with modern technology to create engaging, student-centered learning experiences. Although she has only been with Midlands Technical College for 3 years, she has been full time in the SC Technical College System for the last 20 years.

She applies concepts like operant conditioning as a practical tool, using positive reinforcement to boost participation and motivation. Recognizing her students’ strong connection to digital devices—especially among Generation Z and millennials—Brown incorporates technology as a rewarding element in her assignments.

Long before remote learning became common, she built a flexible, tech-forward environment. She broadcasts classes online, maintains a YouTube channel for videos and resources, and creates quick phone-based tutorials to support learning.

Brown frequently assigns creative video role-plays outside class, such as demonstrations of operant conditioning. Students then watch and discuss these projects together, fostering collaboration and deeper understanding.

A dedicated advocate for affordable education, she pioneers Open Educational Resources (OER), designing fully paperless courses with free online materials that eliminate costs for students while maintaining high quality. Brown treats her office hours as “student hours,” offering flexible access.

Her innovative methods, interactive tools like avatars, and caring attitude have earned her major honors: the Visionary Award, NISOD Excellence Award, SCATCC Faculty Award, and SCTEA Faculty of the Year.

Brown continues exploring tools like interactive gaming to make learning enjoyable. She believes education should spark excitement through relevant material and instructor passion.

Most recently, Brown completed MTC’s Provost Leadership Academy and enthusiastically recommends the experience to other faculty at the college as a valuable opportunity for professional growth and leadership development. In addition, she serves as the Freshman Seminar (COL 105) Coordinator for the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences, supporting student success as learners embark on their educational journey.

Through creative strategies, accessible resources, and unwavering student support, Meredith Brown is a standout educator who makes psychology dynamic and memorable.
