Joey Pelletier | Electrical Engineer | Associate in Applied Science
Jul 07, 2026
Joey Pelletier had a clear vision for his future: earn a bachelor's degree, attend graduate school, and become a physical therapist. After graduating from high school, he enrolled at East Tennessee State University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in biology with a minor in philosophy.
When he wasn't accepted into physical therapy school, Joey found himself at a crossroads. He spent months applying for laboratory jobs with little success before a friend connected him with an opportunity at Bierer Meters, an electronics engineering company in Blythewood, South Carolina. Although the position wasn't part of his original plan, he accepted the job and soon discovered an interest in manufacturing and engineering.
After a year with the company, Bierer Meters offered to support Joey’s education while he continued working full time. He enrolled in the Electrical Engineering Technology program at Midlands Technical College, where the concepts he learned in circuitry, troubleshooting, and systems analysis immediately translated into his work.
Joey earned his Associate in Applied Science in Electrical Engineering Technology in December 2024. Soon after graduating, he was promoted to plant manager at Bierer Meters.
"I am very grateful to the EET faculty and the Engineering Department staff for helping me gain the knowledge and experience toward the career that I love," Joey said.
Today, Joey regularly returns to Midlands Technical College to reconnect with faculty and speak with current students about careers in electrical engineering. You can usually see him at the Bierer Meters table during career expos. For Joey, Midlands Tech provided more than technical knowledge; it gave him the skills, confidence, and direction to turn an unexpected opportunity into a career.
