Professor Lizzie Payne is an accomplished educator and academic leader whose career spans both secondary and postsecondary education. With a deep commitment to advancing excellence in science education, she has served in a variety of influential roles, including Biology Professor, secondary science educator, instructional coach, Science Department Chairperson, curriculum development team member, and Assistant Building Administrator.
Professor Payne earned her Master of Science in Biology from Alabama A&M University in Huntsville, Alabama, graduating Magna Cum Laude. She further expanded her expertise in teaching and learning through postgraduate pedagogical studies at Auburn University. Her passion for education was inspired by a desire to address the need for dedicated, high-quality educators in the community that helped shape her own academic journey.
Throughout her distinguished career, Professor Payne has been recognized for her exceptional contributions to education, instructional excellence, and student success. Her honors and recognitions include:
- Teacher of the Year – Greenville Middle School, Butler County School District, Greenville, Alabama
- Master Teacher – Greenville Middle School and Greenville High School, Butler County School District, Greenville, Alabama
- Professor of the Semester – ECPI University, Columbia, South Carolina
- Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching Nominee – Southside Preparatory Magnet Academy, Conecuh County Schools, Evergreen, Alabama
Currently, Professor Payne serves in the School of STEM at Midlands Technical College, where she teaches Anatomy & Physiology and College 101. Known for her engaging, student-centered teaching approach, she is passionate about helping students build both scientific knowledge and the confidence needed to succeed academically and professionally. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, she continues to strengthen her leadership skills through participation in the Provost Leadership Academy.
Professor Payne believes that education has the power to transform lives. She is dedicated to creating learning environments where students are challenged, supported, and empowered to reach their highest potential. Through mentorship, encouragement, and an unwavering commitment to student achievement, she continues to inspire the next generation of healthcare professionals, scientists, and community leaders.
