On May 28, 2026, Midlands Technical College (MTC) held a special sendoff event for students who will be participating in SkillsUSA’s National Leadership & Skills Conference (NLSC) June 1-5, 2026 in Atlanta, GA.
The sendoff event, held on MTC’s Airport Campus, included a cookout, fellowship, and remarks from Dr. Greg Little, MTC president; Ray Thomas, dean of the School of Advanced Manufacturing and Skilled and School of Business; and Dr. Eric Goff, dean of the School of STEM.
The traveling students were among 25 who won gold medals across multiple disciplines at this year’s SkillsUSA South Carolina competition, thus advancing to nationals.
At the national championship, from MTC’s School of Advanced Manufacturing and Skilled Trades, students will compete in Building Construction Technology, Machine Tool Technology, Welding, Industrial Electrical, and Commercial Graphics. From MTC’s School of STEM, students will compete in Web Design and Development, Internetworking, Computer Programming, Information Technology Services, and Architectural Drafting.
“This sendoff event was a wonderful opportunity for us to come together and celebrate both the achievements and the support system that helped make the achievements possible,” said Dr. Little. “Thank you to everyone who played a role in making it happen. Let’s go win us some hardware!”
SkillsUSA’s National Leadership & Skills Conference (NLSC) is the largest gathering of America’s future skilled workforce and the ultimate recognition of excellence in career and technical education. Held in Atlanta each June, the NLSC is a week-long celebration of the skilled trades and the accomplishments of career-ready leaders from across the United States. The highlight of the NLSC is the SkillsUSA Championships, where more than 6,500 state champions compete for national gold, silver and bronze medals in 114 skilled and leadership competitions.
