Over 1,000 Mavericks Graduate from Midlands Technical College

May 08, 2025

Midlands Technical College (MTC) celebrated its Maverick graduates at the 2025 Spring Commencement Ceremony on May 7 at the Colonial Life Arena. There were over 1,000 candidates eligible to graduate and earn associate degrees, diplomas, and certificates.

During the ceremony, MTC awarded an Honorary Associate Degree in Humane Letters to Major General Van McCarty (Retired). McCarty served as the state's 29th Adjutant General, where he headed the South Carolina Military Department and administered the affairs of the South Carolina Army and Air National Guard, the Emergency Management Division, State Guard, and Youth Challenge Academy. He is a steadfast supporter of MTC, especially in his commitment to the Youth Challenge Academy and MTC Foundation Golf Classic.

MTC President Dr. Greg Little addressed the graduates and encouraged Mavericks to continue to dream big. He highlighted the accomplishments of alumni of the college and some of those in the crowd.

During his address, Dr. Little shared the story of paramedic student Makenzie, who was on an EMS ambulance team that responded to a teenager in cardiac arrest. They were able to resuscitate the teen, who was recently released from the hospital.

Dr. Little also shared the story of twin sisters, Caliegh and Taliegh Corbitt, who completed their nursing degrees. They were cheered on by their mom, Patrice McCoy, who is a current employee of the college as well as an MTC graduate with several degrees.
