Synovus Bank has given $5,000 to the Midlands Technical College Foundation. The donation will support the foundation’s Bridging the Gap Fund.

Each year, the fund reduces the financial burden for low-income students by making up the difference between cost of attendance and what the students are awarded in financial aid. Since 1995, Synovus (and what was locally known as NBSC) have contributed $68,700 to the MTC Foundation.

"Bridging the Gap funds help students stay on their educational paths,” said Nancy McKinney, CEO of the MTC Foundation. “Synovus’s contribution is an outstanding investment toward getting more well-trained graduates into the Midlands’ workforce."

“Every semester, we have successful students who could be forced to drop out of college because they are coming up a little short,” said MTC President Dr. Ronald L. Rhames. “Gifts of a few hundred dollars are what keep many of them on the road to careers that will provide financial stability for generations to come.”

"MTC plays an extremely important role in developing a top notch work force here in the Midlands which is essential in making our community a better place to live, work, and play," said John Griggs of Synovus. "We are proud to support these efforts through the Bridging the Gap Fund."

The generosity of the Midlands community supports Bridging the Gap as well as more than $100,000 in annual scholarships that allow students to take advantage of MTC’s world-class faculty, leading-edge programs, and technology. Visit the MTC Foundation to learn more or make a donation.
