Midlands Technical College Police Department Equips All 15 Patrol Cars with Connected AEDs to Strengthen Campus Emergency Response
May 15, 2026
This spring, the Midlands Technical College Police Department (MTCPD) purchased and installed 15 new automated external defibrillators (AEDs) from Avive for all patrol cars. The Avive Connect AED automatically alerts 911 when deployed and transmits real-time incident data, giving MTCPD officers a direct line between the scene and emergency services from the moment they respond.
“All MTCPD officers are certified as Class 1 Law Enforcement officers through the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy,” said MTC Police Chief Tim Martin. “The AED training is just one part of the advanced training they receive regularly to maintain the highest standards of law enforcement and safety.”

In buildings across MTC's campuses, the college already has over 45 AEDs installed for the safety of students, faculty, and staff. Campuses are also equipped with emergency call boxes for use in times of emergency. Adding these new AEDs to the school's patrol cars shows MTC’s commitment to community safety and emergency preparedness. Unlike traditional AEDs, the Avive Connect AED’s built-in connectivity allows MTCPD officers to automatically share critical incident data with EMS and hospital teams, improving continuity of care from the moment of response.
