On March 8, Columbia's CBS affiliate News 19 WLTX featured a report entitled "Midlands Tech student breaking barriers in construction field, says mom is her inspiration."

Reporter Rachel Ripp explored how women are "gaining more of a foothold in what has traditionally been a male-dominated field: construction." The report focused on Israel Simmons-Thorne who graduated from MTC in the Fall of 2023.
