Inaugural SC Scholastic Esports State Championship Held at Midlands Tech
May 10, 2025

Under colorful LED lighting, and through persistent clicking of controllers and keyboards, the excitement was palpable at the inaugural SC Scholastic Esports State Championship held at Midlands Technical College (MTC).
On Saturday, May 10, 2025, more than 150 middle and high school students from across the Palmetto State competed in the championship in Center for Business and Information Technologies on the college’s Beltline Campus.
During the tournament, competitors were placed in three vs. three teams. Each team had the opportunity to showcase their skills in Super Smash Bros and Rocket League, a soccer game played with cars.
MTC partnered with SC Scholastic Esports to host the tournament.
“We want to make sure that it is always team based,” shared Ryan Panter with SC Scholastic Esports. “These students are working together. Communicating, collaborating, all the right way. We know these are skills they need to be successful in the real world.” Collaborating and communicating with other players was key to ensuring that each team was competitive and successful in their matchups.
MTC' Esports Club Advisor Shickre Sabbagha shared the importance of MTC partnering with organizations like SC Scholastic Esports. “Midlands Tech has an Esports team that was present the day of the competition. For us, it’s a chance to show the state that you can come to MTC, compete in esports still, while gaining an affordable and high-quality education.”
MTC and the SC Scholastic Esports congratulate all competitors and schools for a successful tournament.
