Architectural System and Codes

Overview

Learn how to “design to code,” the fundamentals of computer-aided design and building systems, as well as local and national building codes. This certificate is perfect if you want to learn a basic introduction to architectural engineering technology and if you intend to pursue a degree in AET.

The Architectural System and Codes Certificate is a two-semester program that addresses the basics of architectural systems and the concepts of “designing to code.” The program covers the fundamentals of computer-aided design and building systems and codes. This certificate is designed both for the students needing a basic introduction to architectural engineering technology and those who intend to pursue a degree in AET.

Certificate curricula are reviewed and updated periodically in response to community and industry demands. The student is cautioned to discuss certificate choices and course selections with an academic and career advisor before each registration cycle.

Careers

Inspector

Inspectors examine buildings, highways and streets, sewer and water systems, dams, bridges, and other structures. They also inspect electrical; heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, and refrigeration (HVACR); and plumbing systems. Although no two inspections are alike, inspectors perform an initial check during the first phase of construction and followup inspections throughout the construction project. When the project is finished, they do a final, comprehensive inspection and provide written or oral feedback related to their findings.

Design Technician

Architectural design technicians are structural designers that work with engineers and general architects to create construction blueprints. Most technicians are not involved with the actual designing of the building, but focus on creating the guidelines for how it's constructed.

Associate in Applied Science in Architectural Engineering Technology at MTC

Graduates of this certificate can take additional coursework in general education areas as well as specialized coursework in the area of Architectural Engineering Technology to complete an associate degree.
