March 12 | South Carolina Workers' Compensation

The first class will cover topics in coverage and compliance, handling claims, return to work and light duty, recognizing and avoiding fraud, and interacting with the ADA and FMLA.


April 9 | Understanding Employee Benefit Laws

This class will cover an overview of the ERISA and the impact it has on retirement and welfare benefit plans. In addition, latest developments that are impacting employee benefits administration will be covered.


May 14 | Equal Employment Opportunity Compliance

Topics covered in this course include an overview of employment discrimination law, addressing and avoiding workplace harassment and discrimination, the concepts of disparate treatment and impact, and best practices and guidance for responding to charges of discrimination. 


June 11 | Federal/State Wage and Hour Laws

Topics covered in this course will include FLSA white collar exemptions, wage deductions and garnishments, calculating and paying overtime correctly, independent contractor issues, common "hours worked" issues in the electronic age, and complying with the South Carolina Payment of Wages and Fair Labor Standards Act.


July 9 | Employer's and Employee's Rights and Obligations under the National Labor Relations Act

During this time together, the speaker will present an overview of the NLRA, tensions between free speech and restrictions of speech, protected concerted activity, discrimination provisions of the act, collective bargaining, enforcement procedures and remedies, an impact of states' right to work laws. 


August 13 | Responsibilities under Leave and Accommodation Laws

As the class enters the halfway point in the course, topics covered in this class include employer obligations for handling leave and accommodation requests related to religion, disability, and pregnancy under the ADA, PWFA, Title VII, and applicable state laws, including proper administration of FMLA, prevention of leave abuse, and the interaction of these laws with Workers’ Compensation.


September 10 | OSHA and Government Contracting - Compliance and Reporting Obligations

This class covers OSHA and government contracting compliance, including OSHA fundamentals and regulatory priorities, as well as key statutes, regulations, executive orders, oversight requirements, current agency directives, and reporting and compliance obligations for federal and state contractors, including those related to individuals with disabilities and protected veterans.


October 8 | Unemployment Claims and Employee Handbooks

How can an employer modify its' handbook and policies, understanding South Carolina unemployment laws, meeting drug test requirements, and preparing and presenting your case at a hearing.


November 12 | Business Immigration

Federal I-9 compliance and anti-discrimination laws, South Carolina immigration law, immigrant and non-immigrant categories, and recent developments in business immigration laws are the topics that will be covered in this class. 


December 10 | Special Employment Issues

The last class of the 2026 law series will provide education around avoiding and defending defamation, privacy and other tort claims, social media problems and solutions, hiring employees and conducting reference checks, avoiding and responding to workplace violence, and what E-Discovery and litigation holds mean for HR professionals.
