Wintermester: Student Resources

While MTC buildings are closed for the holidays, academic and student support services will still be available online and virtually for Wintermester students. For all current and prospective students, select online college functions will remain available.

Academic and Career Advising

Please email advisement@midlandstech.edu for assistance. Visit Academic and Career Advising’s MyMTC page for information on special drop-in Zoom hours for quick questions. You’ll also find registration tools on the MyMTC page that can help you build or modify your spring schedule.

Tutoring Services

Need help with your class? FREE online tutoring is available to you 24/7 from Tutor.com. To access Tutor.com, go to the D2L page for the course you want tutoring in, click on the "College Links" dropdown menu in D2L, and select Tutor.com from the list.

Library Services

Access Library resources online and live chat with a librarian.

Textbooks

Eligible students may purchase textbooks with financial aid between Dec. 17 and Dec. 19. The bookstore will be open on campus on Dec. 17, 2021 until 1:30 p.m. Online orders will be accepted until 5:00 p.m. on Dec. 17 as well as Dec. 18 and 19. For Wintermester students who order books online, select the option for in-store pickup to avoid possible shipping delays.

Tuition and Fee Payment

Contact the Cashier’s Office at 803.732.5200 or bccashier@midlandstech.edu. Please leave a message with your name, student ID, daytime call back number, and your question. While the college is closed, you can still make payments online via check or credit card or set up Nelnet payment plans for courses that begin Jan. 10, 2022 or later.

Help Desk Tips for Before Classes Start
  • Students should make sure they can log in to MyMTC and D2L before the start of classes. If you need assistance, please contact our Help Desk at 803.738.7888 well before Dec. 17.
  • Chromebooks cannot be used with Respondus Lockdown Browser in D2L. Respondus Lockdown Browser “locks down” the browser on your computer or tablet during an online exam. It is also not recommended to use an iPad for D2L. If you have a Chromebook or iPad, know that you may experience difficulties completing coursework.
  • Chromebooks do not allow file downloads for submission to D2L. 
  • Students accessing Pearson MyLab using a Mac should use Google Chrome browser.
  • Students taking some IST courses should note that Microsoft Access does not function on a Mac.

Important Dates

•    Monday, December 13 – Students enrolled in a Wintermester course begin receiving access to the course in D2L
•    Friday, December 17 – Wintermester classes begin
•    Friday, December 17 – End of add/drop (schedule change) period for Wintermester
•    Monday, December 27 – Wintermester midterm
•    Tuesday, January 4 – Last day of Wintermester classes
•    Tuesday, January 4 – Last day to withdraw from a Wintermester class (with a “W”)
•    Wednesday, January 5 – Final exams for Wintermester classes
