Student Support Services

TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) is an academic program funded through the US Department of Education for MTC students who meet specific criteria. Through intensive academic advisement and support, SSS helps students in the program to develop stronger academic skills.   The primary mission of SSS is the successful completion of an associate's degree and/or transfer to a 4-year college/ university.  Student Support Services (SSS) at Midlands Technical College serves 185 eligible students.  The eligibility criteria are below.


  • 1st generation students (students' parents do not have  a four-year college degree)
  • Students with limited family income (typically Pell grant recipients qualify)
  • Individuals with a diagnosed disability registered with the MTC Counseling Services office
  • MTC students enrolled in an Associate degree or certificate program and enrolled in college-level classes (ENG 100, MAT 101, and placed out of reading courses)


  • Individualized academic/transfer advisement and career counseling
  • Preparation for and assistance with transferring to a four-year school
  • College tours of four-year colleges
  • Assistance with applying for financial aid and scholarships
