Kickoff Movie Screening "Picture a Scientist"
Virtual Screening with MTC Library, 2pm-4pm

The Midlands Technical College Library - in collaboration with the School of Science, Information Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM)- in observance of Women's History Month, is kicking off MTC's School of STEM week with a celebration of women in STEM. The celebration begins with a screening of Picture a Scientist, on Monday, March 15 at 2 pm. Everyone is welcomed to join us! Just make sure to register using the button below.

Kickoff Webinar – Welcome to STEM Week
Zoom, 5:30pm-6:30pm

A quick introduction of STEM Leadership and a summary of programs at MTC. We'll have a round-robin style interview of the STEM Department Chairs about the benefits of a STEM education and opportunities and new and exciting things in the School. We'll also talk about the upcoming events of the week.

Each Chair (or designated leader) will break out to answer questions about programs or general information from participants. The zoom link for these sessions will be given at the Kickoff Webinar.

Math Dept. Lunch and Learn Webinar
Zoom, 12pm-1pm

What does it mean to be a Math Major? What can you do with a degree in Mathematics? We'll go beyond derivatives, right triangles, and long division and talk about how Math is so much more. Presentations from math competition team members and info on opportunities in the MAT pathway.

Panel discussion with a group of current and former STEM pathways students about why they chose their path in STEM, challenges they faced, the benefits of STEM education at MTC, and other questions as proposed by STEM students and faculty.

Lab@Home: Hopped Up on STEM Virtual Event
Zoom, 7pm-8pm

The tasty side of STEM! Learn about the basics of fermentation, including home brewing methods and how themes of Science, Engineering, and Mathematics run throughout. We will give you some ideas of how you can set up your own fermentation experiment at home and challenge you to submit your photos to our "See Me in STEM" photo contest.

SC State House, 10am

Join us in the first-floor lobby of the State House for a gathering of STEM education supporters! Meet award-winning STEM educators and professionals as they advocate speak about the importance of STEM education and support.

MTC LIVE: Women In STEM Panel Discussion
Facebook Live, 5pm

Participate in a live panel discussion with an exceptional group of female STEM leaders about their personal experiences as women in STEM, how we can provide STEM opportunities to those of any background, and how MTC can support those who choose a career path counter to the statistics.

Math Jeopardy 
Zoom, 7pm

Guests will have the opportunity to participate in groups/individuals, solve a variety of different math problems anywhere from algebra up to calculus and earn potential prizes. Come join us for a round or two of jeopardy! There will be prizes!

Don't necessarily need a full degree or academic certificate? Looking to learn a particular software package or to prepare for an industry certificiation? Come and learn about the Corporate and Continuing Education options available in the IT field, including training for specific certifications and quick-training opportunities.

Panel Discussion: Meet Industry Leaders
Zoom, 5:30pm-6:30pm

Panel discussion with a group of STEM industry leaders about the impacts of COVID 19 on STEM industries and their resiliency, why they chose their path in STEM, challenges they faced, the benefits of STEM education at MTC, the future they see for STEM in the midlands, and other questions as proposed by STEM students and faculty.

Lab@Home: An App In An Hour Virtual Event
Zoom, 7pm-8pm

Come build an App! Learn how to build a fully functional app for your smartphone or tablet. Using MIT App Inventor, we will create an app that we hope will be the beginning of your app invention inspiration. To code along beside us, you will need to set up your device ahead of time.
