HT@MTC Introduces Sixth Season Packed Full of Acrobats, Comedy, Theatre, and Jazz

Whether bouncing to the rafters with circus troupe Flip FabriQue, soaring to Neverland with Peter Pan, or leaping across the stage with EVIDENCE and Pilobolus; this year at Harbison Theatre is sure to inspire.

Flip FabriQue AcrobatsHarbison Theatre at Midlands Technical College is bringing a wide variety of acts to the Midlands during its sixth season.  From Canadian acrobatic group Flip FabriQue, to the perfect moms’ night out with YouTube comedy sensations The BreakWomb, the return of the National Theatre Live On Screen series, and titans of American performance like Irma Thomas featuring other jazz greats, this season has something for everyone.

“We are thrilled for this season to begin and are excited to welcome some new faces to the season lineup, in addition to welcoming back some familiar ones,” says MTC President Dr. Ronald L. Rhames. “We hope that if you haven’t been to the theatre before, you’ll make a point to join us for the first time, and if you have been here before – we can’t wait to see you again!”

GENTRIEvery year, through partnerships with regional grant initiatives and community organizations, HT@MTC welcomes thousands to share in performances that invite the audience to think, laugh, and celebrate. The shows coming to the theatre this season are nothing short of spectacular.

This season launches with GENTRI: The Gentlemen Trio who will be in performing in their first South Carolina engagement. They will perform favorite ballads of stage and screen, as well as their original music, joined by a select ensemble of musicians from the S.C. Philharmonic.

Also featuring the Philharmonic, The Pops Series will return with performances like British Invasion, the perennial sell-out Holiday Pops, and Wizards, Witches, and Fantastic Beasts featuring favorites from the Harry Potter films.

Jazz/Preservation Hall TrumboneThe 2017-2018 season will also bring some world-renowned musicians to the Harbison Theatre stage for the first time. GRAMMY-winner Irma Thomas, The Blind Boys of Alabama & The Preservation Hall Legacy Quintet will join Midlands audiences in November creating a magical combination of New Orleans soul, gospel harmony, and Louisiana jazz. Later in the season, Take Me to the River LIVE will feature a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see GRAMMY winners and music legends William Bell, Bobby Rush, and Don Bryant perform classics celebrating the soul and sound of Memphis in the 1960s and '70s.
