MTC was the first step toward success for Pedro de Abreu
"I initially thought Midlands Technical College would just offer me a collection of classes to help me quickly move on to another degree, but what I found was, in addition to competitive classes, a great group of friends, mentors, and opportunities for growth.
After graduating from Chapin High School, I moved to California and started my own business. When it was time for my next step, I thought I wanted to study economics, but wasn’t sure – maybe I just wanted to continue as an entrepreneur. At MTC, I could test the waters and see if studying economics really made me tick. It did. After three semesters at MTC, I was chosen as South Carolina's New Century Scholar, the top community college student in the state and one of the top 50 in the country. I subsequently entered the Darla Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina. In 2014, I graduated summa cum laude with a triple degree in economics, business management, and organizational leadership. Successively, I earned my Master's degree at Harvard University in applied psychology, neuroscience, and practice. In 2016, I was chosen as a finalist for Forbes magazine's 2016 30 under 30.
Midlands Technical College was the beginning, the place where I took my first steps and found a great sense of community. There were many people at MTC who helped me succeed, including staff, who were always helpful, and professors, who loved what they were doing.
MTC, above all, rewards hard work and diligence by helping you develop and solidify a successful path."
