MTC Cares

Could you use more $$$ in your paycheck????

Federal tax regulations provide an Earned Income Credit (EIC) to qualifying taxpayers with earned income below certain levels. The Earned Income Credit is meant to assist the working poor. In addition, low income taxpayers with at least one dependent can claim the Advanced Earned Income Credit (AEIC). This special treatment acts as a “negative income tax” affording the qualified taxpayer additional net pay each paycheck based on their income, marital status and the number of dependents.

In 2002, approximately 19 million taxpayers claimed $32 billion of earned income tax credits. In the seven-county service area serviced by Midlands Technical College, there are a large numbers of taxpayers who are eligible for the EIC/AEIC who do not claim the credit due to a lack of knowledge about their possible qualification for the credit. Midlands Technical College provides a community service to these taxpayers by conducting public information sessions and assisting Midland’s taxpayers in determining their eligibility for the program.
