Helpful Information about the FLPT
- MTC uses the University of South Carolina's French Placement Test and Spanish Placement Test.
- Placement Testing will determine the level at which students study French and Spanish. Those who have never studied the language (or not within the last five years) are not required to take the placement test. They enroll in FRE 101 or SPA 101.
- Students who, within the last five years, have studied the language in high school for two or more years and have received high school credit for their work or those who know something of the language through personal exposure must take the placement test.
A student who has studied the language for at least one year in high school and has received credit for that work may take the FLPT but is not required doing so.
- The level indicated by the test result is mandatory. The test may not be retaken within three years.
Students who place in a course higher than 101 can get credit for the course(s) they place out of by making a grade of C or better in the course they take.
