Short term and long term memory

Repetition is the key to studying. Here is a brief explanation of your short term and long term memory.

• Short term memory is limited and lasts for only a short period of time (this is where information is processed)
• Long term memory is unlimited and permanent (this is where information is integrated)
• Information is processed first through short term memory and then integrated into long term memory
• You don’t want to over load your short term memory (this is what happens when you wait until the last minute to study for a test); You must take time to process new information
• You are able to store information into long term memory through repetition (studying information again and again)
