Successful, experienced students serve as academic mentors for SSS participants seeking extra support in their studies. In addition to helping students understand the material for a particular class, these mentors also assist in improving overall academic skills and fostering better study habits. Depending on individual needs, mentors and their “mentees” may meet individually or in groups, face-to-face or by phone.

SSS attempts to provide a mentor for any participant making a request within a workable timeframe. However, the availability of a suitable mentor may be limited because of the demands on mentors’ time or due to the specialized nature of the course. If a mentor cannot be assigned, SSS staff will suggest other means to meet the student’s needs.
