SC State Need-Based Grant (SNBG)
Program Information


State Need-Based Grants (SNBG) are offered to eligible students during the academic year. These funds are not available during summer terms. Need is determined by completing the FAFSA. SNBG awards are not guaranteed and are subject to the availability of funds.

In order to receive the SNBG, you must comply with some requirements which are a part of the law.  Failure to comply with these requirements will result in removal of the grant offer. 

To receive the State Need-Based Grant, you must be:
  1. a legal resident of the State of South Carolina,

  2. of good moral character and have no felony convictions, alcohol or drug-related offenses,

  3. admitted and enrolled at least half-time as an undergraduate student seeking your first undergraduate degree,

  4. making satisfactory academic progress as defined in the "Terms and Conditions" pamphlet provided with your  first award letter, and
It will be necessary for you to sign, date and return the top copy of the CERTIFICATION AND AFFIDAVIT form.

Additional Information

  1. You must register for at least six(6) semester hours of credit for the Fall Semester and/or Spring Semester.

  2. Summer School credits cannot be used to make up shortages in the Fall and Spring Semesters.

  3. You must have a 2.00 Grade Point Average in all Midlands Technical College courses attempted, to receive the SNBG.

  4. You must not have an associate or baccalaureate degree.

  5. SNBG funds will not be made available for Summer school or period(s) of attendance, other than Fall and Spring Semesters.

  6. You will be allowed to receive only eight semesters of SNBG--up to specified maximum.

  7. Eligibility will be determined each year by submitting the FAFSA.

  8. If, after you received the SNBG payment in the Fall, you receive another grant or scholarship, your Spring SNBG may be removed or reduced.
