CHM 101 COURSE OBJECTIVES:

The purpose of this course is to enable the student to gain an appreciation and working knowledge of basic chemical principles.  Emphasis will be placed on problem solving and the unit cancellation method will be used throughout this course.

Students will relate atomic structure to valence, properties, bonding, and chemical reactivity.  They will also complete and balance chemical equations, using correct chemical formulas and nomenclature.  Students will predict quantities of substances that are produced or reacted in a given chemical process, and they will apply appropriate gas laws to solve problems relating to temperature, volume and pressure.

Detailed course objectives given to class by instructor.
