Essay Questions:

1. Describe the cell membrane.

A) What different types of substances is it composed of?

B) Explain how the components of the membrane are arranged using the “Fluid-mosaic model”

C) Explain how a molecule would enter a cell by diffusion and what would be needed.

D) Explain how a molecule would enter a cell by facilitated transport and what would be needed.

E) Explain how a molecule would enter a cell by active transport and what would be needed.

2. Describe the cell cycle. A, B, C, D & E) List each phase and discuss what is occurring at this time. Be sure you discuss what happens to the cell before it divides all the way up through the actual formation of two new cells after division. You may draw pictures to help organize your thoughts, but I won’t grade your illustrations. Give me as much information as you can!
