Teaching Philosophy
In institutions of higher learning the instructional process is a forum for communicating knowledge, exchanging ideas, exploring theories, developing skills, and expanding horizons. This occurs as new information interacts with previous learning, personal experiences, and values. The priority in the classroom is to stimulate growth by blending scientific and academic excellence with opportunities for practical learning and skill development. Overall, my goal in teaching is to help students enlarge their understanding of the world around them and the human condition, while significantly enhancing their professional and personal development. In the professional realm, teaching promotes the assimilation of relevant knowledge and skills to insure students function maximally in their careers and find satisfaction throughout their vocational development. In the personal domain, teaching and learning should foster self-understanding and the building of resources for successful living. Taken together, teaching is a means to help students recognize their potential, while equipping them to fulfill their dreams.
