Andrew Gummow, M.A.

Psychology Instructor

I began my education in the community college setting, earning an A.A. from Rock Valley College in Rockford, Illinois. I then transferred to Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois to complete a B.A. in Psychology and a M.A, in Clinical Psychology. My teaching experience includes special education for adolescents with emotional disabilities and psychology classes at the community college and university level.  My clinical experience includes working as a therapist with adolescents in a school-based program and with chronically mentally ill adults. I feel privileged to teach at Midlands Technical College.

Special Announcements

Extra credit opportunity for PSY 201 and PSY 212 students: Read our MTC Reads book for 2010, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time by Mark Haddon. Write a one to two page paper on what you learned about autism for the main character. This paper must be typed and double spaced. This will earn 20 extra credit points. Click on this link to look at the symptoms of autism in order to make the connection between the main character's behavior and symptoms of autism. This will be due April 19 for M/W sections, April 20 for T/TH.

2nd extra credit opportunity: The South Carolina Hospital association is bring "Fine Line: Mental Health/Mental Illness" a documentary of voices, stories, and portraits to the 701 Center at 701 Whaley St. March 11 - April 25th. The exhibit is free and is on display Wednesdays from 11am- 8pm, Thursday through Saturday 11am - 5 pm and Sundays from 1-5 pm. Take notes as you enjoy the exhibit, then write one or two pages (typed and double-spaced) about what you learned from the exhibit. This will earn 15 extra credit points. This will be due the week of April 19. PSY212 students can attend any time after the exhibit opens. PSY201 students should wait until we begin studying psychological disorders the week of April 12th.
