High School Students

Pre-College Programs for High School Students

Get a head start on college while you are still in high school! MTC offers two easy ways for you to take college courses while still in high school.

Many colleges and universities require similar “general education” requirements. Courses such as English, math, science, and social science classes are considered “general education” requirements at most colleges and universities. MTC offers pre-college opportunities for high school students to complete college coursework during high school. Some of the advantages to completing these courses at MTC include:

  • Saving money - MTC’s tuition is a lot less than what you’d pay at a 4-year college or university. Students taking two classes (at least 6 credit hours per semester) may use South Carolina Lottery Tuition Assistance to offset the tuition cost even more!
  • Saving time - getting a head start on college credit means you’ll finish your degree sooner.
  • Gaining experience – Moving from high school to college is a big step. Easing your way into it by taking classes as a high school student will make the transition much smoother!
  • Transferring Courses - We highly recommended that you work with your high school counselor or MTC’s enrollment staff when choosing your courses to ensure the credits will transfer.

MTC offers two easy ways for you to jump-start your college career in high school. Each are explained below.

Dual Enrollment

This option is for students who are taking one college course each semester and who do not want to use SC Lottery Tuition Assistance to cover tuition costs. Learn more about Dual Enrollment by clicking here.

Early College

This option is for students who are taking at least two courses (at least six credit hours) each semester and who want to use SC Lottery Tuition Assistance to offset tuition costs. Learn more about Early College by clicking here.
