What is the Electronics Engineering Technology (EET) Program about? What can I expect to learn?
EET is a comprehensive program that teaches the basics of electronics and electrical systems, including telecommunications, digital and power electronics. A degree in EET will permit the graduate to work in a wide variety of industries.
What is the difference between Electronics Engineering and Electronics Engineering Technology?
Technologists are trained in the basics to function as assistants to engineers and senior technologists. Electronics Engineering Technology is a course of study designed to allow the individual to function in this support capacity with minimal supervision and to assume significant responsibility for the execution of an engineering project under the direction of an engineer.
I have to work. Can I enroll in this program and still work part or full time?
Yes. Many of our students do this and some employers make special arrangements to allow students to attend class at specific times so there is no conflict with work schedules. The student should consult their HR department at work about this possibility.
How many credits is the EET degree? About how long does it take most students to finish the program?
There are 74 credits in the program, although many students accumulate more than 74 because they pursue extra courses that are interesting to them but not required.
How do I know if EET is a good fit for me?
This is an easy answer if the person is “into” electronics and is curious about how systems are manufactured and how they work. If a student has never thought about this, they should call the EET Department and arrange to talk to a faculty member and take a tour of the labs.
Does earning the Electronics Engineering Technology (EET) Degree qualify me for a job at Michelin?
Not necessarily. Getting an EET degree certainly improves the graduate’s chances, but Michelin requires that the graduate take and pass a technical skills test before they are considered fully qualified.
Do I have to be a Michelin Scholar to get into the EET Program?
No. Everyone is welcome, even those who do not want to be a Michelin Scholar.
Apart from Michelin, what other financial assistance is available to me if I enroll in the EET Program?
For many MTC students, Lottery-Funded Tuition Assistance pays the majority of their tuition. Check with the college’s Financial Services Office for complete information on other federal, state and private assistance that might be available.
Can I begin this program anytime or only in the fall?
Your course schedule may be out of the normal sequence if you start in spring or summer semesters, but the faculty will work with you to resolve the problem.
How do I get started? Exactly what steps are required for me to begin the program?
You must apply to the college and be accepted. Next, you should complete any pre-engineering or developmental studies courses that may be required. Finally, call the department to schedule advisement with a faculty member from EET.
