2.1 – Coordinate System & Graphs

Rectangular Coordinate System –

Review:

                        Types of equations:

                                    linear –

                        Graphing an equation:

                                    Point-plotting method -  always works, but not the quickest method

                        Intercepts:

                                    x – intercept

                                    y - intercept     

Distance Formula -    used to find the distance between two points,  and

Ex.: 

1.)  Find the distance between the points (4, -1) and (-3, 5).

Midpoint Formula -    used to find the midpoint between two points,  and

Ex.:

2.)  Find the midpoint of the line between the points (4, 7) and (-10, 7).

Equation of a Circle –

                        standard form              

                                                                        where r = radius and the center is at (h, k)

Ex.:

3.)  Find the radius and center of the equation,

4.)  Write an equation for  circle with a radius of and center (-1, 6).
