10.3 – Equations that are Quadratic in Form

 

U-Substitution:   Converting a Non-Quadratic Equation into a Quadratic Equation.

 

            Steps: 

 

                        1.)  Write the equation in standard form set equal to 0.

 

                        2.)  Set the variable in the middle term equal to.

 

                        3.)  Find .  This should be the leading term’s variable for the substitution method to work.

 

                        4.)  Substitute  and  into the equation making it a quadratic equation.

 

                        5.) Solve the equation for .
