12.3 – Measures of Dispersion

Range –

            = Largest Data Item – Smallest Data Item

Standard Deviation –

            the average amount each data item deviates from the mean.

            Steps:

                        1.)  Find the mean.

                        2.)  Subtract each data item from the mean.

                        3.)  Square each of these numbers.

                        4.)  Add up the squares.

                        5.)  Divide the sum of the squares by n-1

                        6.)  Take the square root of this number.
