The CareerThere is a significant need in the Midlands and surrounding areas for legal support personnel. As a Legal Administrative Assistant, you will work for lawyers in private law firms, governmental offices, legal departments of corporations, court houses, legal aid offices, or the offices of county attorneys or public defenders. Your duties may include preparing legal documents, billing and accounting, processing correspondence, transcribing, communicating with clients, utilizing a variety of software, and organizing and managing a busy legal practice. The 36-credit hour Legal Administrative Assistant Certificate Program at Midlands Technical College is a specialized program designed to provide advanced training and simulated practice in the administrative responsibilities required to complement the legal team in law firms, private or public corporations, or government departments. This comprehensive, short-term certificate prepares students for employment in law offices, insurance companies, financial institutions, courts, and police departments, as well as in legal departments of business firms and government offices. Emphasis is placed on legal terminology, legal transcription, court procedures, and computer applications. With hands-on training as a Legal Administrative Assistant, graduates of the program are able to begin work right away.
