MTC and the Enrollment Process
Step-by-Step through Enrollment
A leader in creating an innovative learning environment, Midlands Technical College is a comprehensive, public, two-year college. With more than 90 programs of study, the college serves approximately 11,000 credit students through courses leading to associate degrees, diplomas and certificates. Many of our programs are specifically designed for students who wish to continue their education at a four-year college or university. Courses taken for the diploma programs usually cannot be transferred to a four-year bachelors’ degree. Class sessions are divided into three semesters per year.
There are five campuses of Midlands Technical College:
Airport – in West Columbia, Lexington County
Harbison – in Irmo, Lexington County
Beltline – in Columbia, Richland County
Ft. Jackson – in Columbia, Richland County

Tuition and Expenses:
International students are not eligible for scholarships or grants from the United States government. Tuition and a student fee amount of approzimately $4,550 per semester with a minimum of four (4) semesters required for most of the Associate Degree programs.
Other fees include:
Books and supplies - approximately $400 per semester
One-time enrollment fee - $25.00 your first semester

We estimate that $18,485 should cover living and educational expenses for one student for one academic year at a modest standard of living. This is the amount we require you or your sponsor to show as available for your use while a student here.

This statement should be dated within six months of the date the application is submitted.

An applicant sponsored by his/her government or other agency must submit a letter from the sponsoring agency authorizing the college to bill the sponsoring agency for tuition and other fees in lieu of the advance tuition payment.
At the Consulate:
You will be required to show proof of your financial support and approval for admission to Midlands Technical College. You will also need to show that you have paid the $100 SEVIS fee (non-refundable). DO NOT PAY THIS FEE TO THE COLLEGE. After you receive your I-20, you will have to go to www.fmjfee.com to pay the fee with a credit card or money order. You will need to satisfy to the consular official that you have significant ties to your home country that will cause you to return to your home country after completing your degree program. Be prepared with sufficient evidence. Don’t forget to print your receipt!
Advisement and Course Registration:
After you’ve accomplished the tasks required by the International Student Coordinator for acceptance to the college, you will be directed to academic advisement. An academic advisor will be assigned to assist you with course registration. During your appointment with your academic advisor, you will discuss what classes you will need to take, what classes (if any) you will not need to take and how to register.
From the advisement appointment, you may go to the Scheduling Center to set up your class schedule. At that point, you will need to take the paper copy given to you at the Scheduling Center and go to the Records Office for data entry.
At data entry, your classes will be entered into the computer and a bill will be printed. Even if you have money still available in your escrow account, you will need to take this print out to the cashier’s office. The cashier will apply your payments to your classes and inform you if you owe additional monies.
After you have cleared your bill, you will be able to purchase your textbooks from the college bookstore, and prepare to attend class.
Through the registration process, students assume academic and financial responsibility for the classes in which they enroll. They are relieved of these responsibilities only by formally terminating enrollment by dropping or withdrawing in accordance with procedures and deadlines specified in the class schedule of each term. Please remember that International Students must maintain a full-time course load to maintain legal status in the U.S.
