ADVISEMENT

  1. Continuing students may contact the departmental secretary on each campus for advisement/registration appointments. Students are encouraged to see the same advisor each semester for continuity.

  2. There is on each campus a Career Services Office, which is provided to serve students’ needs. Whenever students desire vocational or educational counseling, they may freely contact this office.

  3. Please visit the Campus Placement Office prior to graduation for assistance with job placement and resume writing.

  4. Should a student encounter disciplinary difficulties, contact the office of the Vice-President of Student Affairs.

  5. Financial difficulties are sometimes alleviated through contacting the office of Financial Aid.

For tutoring:

  1. VA students should contact the campus VA Office.

  2. Students with special needs, first generation college students, and students eligible for financial aid should contact the Special Services office on either campus.

  3. Other Students needing assistance with tutoring should contact the Tutorial Services Office on Beltline Campus (738-7817) and speak with Carolyn Rhodes, on Airport Campus (822-3071) and speak with Alfred Pritchard.

Student Records and Policies

  1. The office of Admissions and Records should be notified any time that a student’s name and/or address changes. This is important for keeping in contact with students for matters affecting the student’s status in the college, for emergencies, etc. It is very helpful if students will notify the department of such changes.

  2. A policy of NO SMOKING, EATING OR DRINKING is observed in all classroom and instructional areas. Specific areas are designed for these activities.
  3. Up to 3 copies of SFP agency evaluations forms are available to students upon request for use in seeking employment or related purposes. Make your request in writing to your SFP supervisor/coordinator or the program director. NOTE: Records are transferred periodically to Archives, therefore response to your request may take several days.

Class Related Concerns and Resources

  1. Library facilities are available on both campuses; however, students are reminded that faculty members often have resources not available in the libraries. It is to the student’s advantage to inquire about such resource materials. In addition, the USC Library is available for on-premises use.  The Richland County Library also provides a number of resources.

  2. Students who expect to be absent from class and/or SFP should contact instructor’s an/or agency supervisors in order to make arrangements to make up work to be missed. NOTE: It is necessary to make up missed hours from SFP agency work; however, absences from classes may not be made up.

  3. Difficulties with classes, requests for individual assistance, requests for change in classroom procedure, etc., should always be taken up with the course instructor first. If no satisfaction is obtained through discussion with the individual instructor, then the student should approach his/her department head with the matter. If any further action is warranted, the student will be so advised by the department head.

In the event that such difficulties are encountered in courses outside the HUS Department, the student should contact his/her own department head if satisfaction is not obtained with the individual instructor involved.

  4. Students are given the opportunity during the fall semester to rate the faculty on a standard evaluation form. These evaluations are confidential and should be taken seriously with the questions answered as the students see the instructor.  These ratings can be influential in prompting changes and/or improvements in department policy and procedures and in instructor methods.

  5. Students who are on a volunteer/practicum work assignment with an agency should discuss the matter of liability with the supervisor.  Students should be under direct supervision at all times and therefore free from liability. If the student is injured at a volunteer site while carrying out a class assignment the College (Student Life) should be notified.
  • NOTE: See information on Health Services in Student Handbook.
