Unless otherwise stated in the syllabus
In a 14-week term,
students are allowed
4 absences for a
class that meets 2 times per week.
In a 12-week term,
students are allowed
3 absences for a
class that meets 2 times per week.
In a 10-week term,
students are allowed
2 absences for a
class that meets 2 times per week.
In a 7-or 5-week term,
students are allowed 2 absences in any class.
In an online class,
students are expected to
participate in a regular basis through discussion boards, chat,
projects, or other forms of interaction required by the instructor.
Please do craft an online attendance policy.
Examples: Reid
Holland uses discussions as the basis of his online attendance policy:
"If you miss two week’s worth of discussions, you are automatically
dropped from the course. You will receive a W (Withdrawn) if you miss
two discussions before mid term. After mid term you will receive either
a W, or a WF (Withdrawn Failing), depending on your class average at the
time."
Elena Martínez-Vidal's
policy uses the tracking in WebCT plus assignments: "If
at any time you have 8 missing assignments in a row, I will withdraw you
from the course. If at any time, you do not log in to the course
for over 7 days, I will withdraw you from the course."
Students should read the course
syllabus carefully for the instructor's explanation of required
participation. This participation counts as attendance, and students who
do not participate for a total of more than 2 weeks will be withdrawn
from the course.
NOTE: Some courses such as speech and foreign language courses may have
different attendance policies to accommodate the nature of the course.
Students should refer to the course syllabus for specific information
regarding attendance.
In
general, for a 14 week term: SPC 205 = 3 absences
Foreign Language course = 2 absences
