In the Health Information Management Associates Degree Program, students receive instruction in health information systems and procedures. Students are trained to analyze and evaluate technical and highly sensitive data in health records according to standards; compile various types of administrative and health statistics for use in planning and evaluating; to code signs, symptoms, diseases, operations, procedures and other therapies; to supervise day to day operations in a health information management department, to release health information, and use a variety of manual and automated health record indices and storage and retrieval systems.
In addition, students receive detailed instruction in medical, administrative, ethical, legal, accreditation and regulatory requirements for the health care delivery system. This experience includes, but us not limited to, laboratory and clinical experience at local health facilities.
The Health Information Management Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics & Information Management (CAHIIM).
Graduates from MTC’s accredited Health Information Management program are eligible to take the national accreditation examination to become Registered Health Information Technicians (RHIT).
