PRAXIS I EXAMINATION AND TEST-PREP WORKSHOPS AT MIDLANDS TECH

Regardless of where you transfer to complete your 4-year degree, you will need to pass the PRAXIS I or exempt it by scoring well enough on the SAT or ACT. The South Carolina State Department of Education currently waives the PRAXIS I requirement for students who scored 1100 or greater on the SAT (1650 for exams taken on or after March 1, 2005) or 24 or greater on the ACT.

At USC, the PRAXIS I is a prerequisite for admission into the College of Education Professional Program. A similar policy is at other 4-year schools, as well, and no student is allowed to student teach without PRAXIS I. Transfer students who have passed the PRAXIS I exam therefore have a great advantage over those who have not.

You can sign-up to take PRAXIS I at the Educational Testing Service website (see link on the left). When you register for PRAXIS I, the "Attending Institution" code for Midlands Tech is 5425. Please be sure you use that code number for "Attending Institution." You may be eligible for a fee reimbursement, but only if you use the Midlands Tech institution code.

Test dates and sites are listed on the Educational Testing Service website. Test preparation sessions will be offered regularly at Midlands Tech the first half of each semester.

The next PRAXIS I preparation sessions will be held on the Airport Campus in the Academic Center room 101 from 9:00AM until Noon on the following dates:

  • PRAXIS I (Reading & Writing) - 9:00AM - Noon, Saturday, March 29, 2008.

  • PRAXIS I (Math) - 9:00AM - Noon, Saturday, April 5, 2008.

Each session will be limited to 15 participants. If you wish to attend the test preparation sessions, you must call Patti Thompson at 738-7111 to reserve a seat no later than Thursday before each session. Only students on the reservation list will be allowed to participate in the workshops.
