It would be difficult to find an aspect of society that does not incorporate electronics.
Electronics engineering technicians can establish careers in diverse areas because electronics is so pervasive. They gain a broad knowledge and understanding of electronics, which prepares them for career-entry positions, before going on to build careers in their chosen specialty as their work experience and expertise increases.
Engineering technicians are individuals who want to be on the cutting edge of the electronics revolution. They want to lead the way to the future by working on equipment rather than having the primary function of design. They are individuals who are well versed in the fundamentals of electronics and are ready for that special niche.
Electronics engineering technicians often assist and support professional engineers and/or scientists in designing and developing new products and emerging high-tech equipment and machinery. Electronic manufacturing technicians help build and maintain automated systems for manufacturing. Electronic repair technicians diagnose and fix broken equipment such as CD players and video game boxes.
Field service representatives assist customers in the selection, installation and setup of equipment. Often traveling to the customerís site to install and maintain the equipment, these technicians become the expert on the equipment in the field. Electronic communication and telecommunications technicians can find jobs ranging from broadcast support to computer network support. These individuals become experts in the transmission and routing of electronic information whether it is wireless communication or through copper wires. Some electronic technicians prefer to enter the potentially lucrative sales and service occupations.
The Electronics Engineering Technology program at Midlands Technical College is designed to help students develop the basic technical skills necessary to be successful in a wide variety of electrical and electronics fields. Computer skills are emphasized, providing students with practical experiences in computer applications and programming. Technical courses include classroom lectures, hands-on opportunities and individual design projects to assist students in developing the technical skills needed on the job as electronics engineering technicians. Courses in math, humanities, social or behavioral sciences, composition and physics contribute to a well-rounded educational program.
