What Are The Eligibility Criteria?

You are eligible to apply for the WIA Youth Program at Midlands Technical College if—

  1. You are 17 - 21 years old.
  2. You are a resident of Richland or Lexington counties.
  3. You can say "yes" to one of the following:
    • Your family income has been identified as meeting the established family income guidelines. Click here to see.
    • You receive benefits such as TANF or SNAP (food stamps).
    • You are homeless (as defined by Section 103 of the Stewart B. McKinney Homeless Income Guideline).
    • You are disabled.
    • You are a foster child or ward of the court.
  4. You are one of the following:
    • basic skills deficient (based on TABE assessment scores within the last 6 months)
    • a parent or pregnant,
    • a school dropout,
    • an offender,
    • homeless or
    • requires additional special assistance (determined by the Midlands Workforce Development Board).

Special note: if you are a male, you must be registered with Selective Services in order to be eligible for WIA program services. Click here to register.
