PHARMACY TECHNICIAN

DESCRIPTION:
A program designed to prepare pharmacy technical personnel to assist Pharmacists in drug calculations, preparation, packaging, labeling, and dispensing, and thereby, through medicinal means, help the patient meet his overall health needs.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Completion of the Pre-Health Care Certificate with a 2.5 GPA or higher
OR
HOBET Composite 50 % Minimum Reading 50% MTC Writing Sample of 30 Within 3 years of applying to program
OR
SAT Total 910 Minimum Verbal 430 MTC Writing Sample of 30 Within 3 years of applying to program
OR
ACT 19 Comp Minimum Verbal 18 MTC Writing Sample of 30 Within 3 years of applying to program
OTHER ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
  • Recommended high school credits in algebra, biology, chemistry, and computers.
  • Emotional and physical ability to carry out normal pharmacy activities (to include lifting, stretching, and standing for long periods).
  • Examination by a physician and the completion of a personal health history.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS:
A minimum of 49 Semester credit hours is required for graduation. A minimum grade of "C" must be attained in all pharmacy, math and science courses.

PROGRAM NOTES:

  1. A pre-admission interview is required prior to acceptance.
  2. An arrest and conviction, drug related charge, record check is required.
  3. Course substitutions must be approved by the Program Director.
  4. For probation, suspension, and dismissal policies, see student handbook and MTC catalog.

  6. Applicant must be a high school graduate or equivalent.
  7. Physical Exam with TB titer
  8. Hepatitis immunization or titer.
  9. Current First Aid and CPR certification at time of entry.
  10. Midlands Technical College is accredited for pharmacy technician training by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists.  external link
  11. The Pharmacy Technician program is also offered as a distance education cooperative program. The technical portion of the program is offered via distance education to several technical colleges throughout the state.
