You are not required to have any knowledge of computers to take this exam. Scores are reported immediately upon completion of the test.
The areas of testing for the C-HOBET/HOBET include essential math skills, social interaction, stress level, learning style, reading comprehension for science textbooks and test-taking skills. The results are reported in an individual academic/social profile for each student. Scores for each area are reported. The composite and reading comprehension scores are important for program admission.
The reading section of C-HOBET evaluates reading comprehension at the inferential level for science-related material. Students are given several passages to read and then asked questions about the readings. The reading selections are written generally at a tenth grade level. A student who scores well on this subtest should have no difficulty reading college-level content.
A newly developed study guide is available at the college's bookstore on either campus. It is currently priced at approximately $37. Other study guides should be available at major bookstores as well. Study guides are generally most useful when studied consistently and over a period of time.
