Through the DSSTs testing program, commonly known as DANTES, students have the opportunity to demonstrate knowledge and receive college credits for learning received outside of the traditional classroom. Many students have been able to improve their chances for admission from passing scores on transcripts, which provide excellent evidence of their ability to perform at the college level. Success on these exams can also shorten the path to a degree, save time and money, while gaining confidence in performing on the college level.
There are approximately 37 examinations in the areas of Social Science, Business, Mathematics, Applied Technology, Humanities, and Physical Science. If you have questions concerning which tests may be taken and if or how credits are applied, please contact your advisor at Midlands Technical College or the college (university) of your choice. Cellular telephones, watches with alarms, pagers and other handheld computing devices are not permitted in the testing room. Non-programmable calculators, slide rules and other such materials may be allowed if permitted by the test provider.
DANTES exams are not scored locally. Scores are reported only to the examinee and the institution designated by the examinee. Please allow 4 to 6 weeks to receive your DANTES score report. Scores will not be given to a student by telephone under any circumstance.
Students with disabilities: If you have a disability, please contact the Disability Resource Center before you register regarding testing under special conditions, e. g., extended testing time (up to three hours per test), use of a reader or transcriber, or use of large-print testing materials. Only students with documentation of a learning or physical disability are eligible for special DANTES arrangements.
Midlands Technical College has established specific guidelines for accepting DANTES scores. Please contact the Student Assessment Center for arrangements/procedures.
